LAMENTATIO 1997 Thomas Tallis 1. SALVATOR MUNDI 2. LAMENTATIO I 3. LAMENTATIO II 4. SANCTE DEUS 5. MAGNIFICAT The present CD contains music by Thomas Tallis (c1505-1585) which for its deep comprehensiveness and boldly distinguished sound belongs to one of the favourites of Heinavanker. The music by Thomas Tallis is admirable for its most fascinating unity of text and music, its expressive tonality and charming surprises of harmony, derived from linear way of thinking. Thomas Tallis is a court musicican and composer who has been in service of four sovereigns and whose life and creative activity fell into the period of fierce struggle between Catholicism, Reformation and Counter-Reformation. He erected his cathedral of music on the burnt to ashes land of abbeys and stakes... On its way to modern times the Haywain of Bosch seems to have travelled also through the England of 16th century. |
